Hotel Review: Sheraton Surabaya Hotels & Towers

Surabaya . 2012 . Nov 18 - 21

Sheraton Surabaya Hotel & Towers was our choice pick when we visited Surabaya in November 2012 in a group.  Our 3 nights at the hotel was a comfortable and relaxing stay and we would like to share our thoughts and review of the hotel with you.

The Lobby & Reception Area

The Check-in Counter.  Service staff, though not very well versed in English, were friendly and made an effort to communicate and listen to our needs.

The hotel lobby is grand, and houses a Louis Vuitton shop.  There is a back door that leads to the Tunjungan Plaza, the largest shopping centre in East Indonesia

We were especially impressed with the security system put in place for the safety of guests.  Every person who passes through the hotel doors will be scanned and screened, and their belongings checked.  It gives us great peace of mind to know that the hotel takes the safety of its guests seriously in view of the prevalent threat of a terrorist attack.

Lift Lobby and the corridor leading to our room. Let's go up to see the room..

The Room

Upon check-in, we were told that we had been given an upgrade to one of the Starwood Preferred Guest room on the 17th floor.  These rooms come with complimentary wi-fi which is especially useful to connect to the Internet using our smartphones and tablets, as compared to other normal rooms which only have an Ethernet cable.  Throughout our stay, the wi-fi signal had always been strong and was good enough for us to do video conferencing.

View of the exit from the room.  The bathroom is on the left hand side, and the wardrobe, on the right hand side.

Sheraton lives up to its reputation of a high class hotel.  The room that was allocated to us was spacious and cozy, and this was further enhanced by the large wall sized-mirror.  The King-sized bed was comfortable and the sheets clean.  There is also a safe, couch, a study table and a flat screen TV in the room.

The only downside of this room was that we could distinctly hear the sound of morning prayers from one of the surrounding buildings at about 4am in the morning.  It is loud enough to wake us up from our sleep.  We noticed that on some afternoons at 4pm, the prayers were repeated again.

View of the hazy Surabaya city scape from our room. Visibility is very poor...can you see the two buildings at the left of the photo?

The Amenities

Besides the mini bar, Sheraton also provides 2 bottles of mineral water in the bathroom (for oral hygiene) and 2 bottles in the bedroom for consumption.

There is a safe and iron board provided for guests' usage.

The Bathroom

The bathroom is huge and houses a bathtub and a separate shower area.  Basic amenities such as shampoo, conditioners, soap and toothbrush are provided and replenished daily.

Lounge

There is a beautifully furnished lounge on the second storey.  A pianist comes to perform on the grand piano every evening.

Verdict:  Sheraton Surabaya Hotel & Towers certainly lives up to its reputation as a high class hotel.   Although the facilities were somewhat aged and worn, it is clean and preserves its grandness and majesty fitting of a Sheraton hotel.  Its location is excellent, and with the Tunjungan Plaza just next to it, there is no lack of dining options.  We would certainly stay here again on our next visit to Surabaya.
