Shopping at Gurney Plaza Penang

Penang . 2013 . Jan 17 - 20

This post is a continuation of our previous post on G Hotel Penang. You may also read the full review of our 4 Days 3 Nights short getaway trip to Penang here.

If you are a Singaporean, when you step into Gurney Plaza, you would notice a familiar feel as the mall is designed just like a typical Singapore Mall. It was no wonder as we later realised that it is in fact owned by Capital Malls. It is considered Penang's No 1 lifestyle shopping mall with nine storeys of retail, shopping and dining options.

Gurney Plaza. Notice the Capital Malls logo on the top of the building.

Gurney Plaza with G Hotel. Gurney Plaza is just beside G Hotel Penang, where we stayed for our 4 day 3 night Penang trip. Being so close means we literally visited the mall every day!

Comprehensive listings of all the shops in Gurney Plaza. Lots of dining and shopping options. Its just like a typical Singapore mall, without the crowds though! ;)

Gurney Plaza is anchored by Department Store Parkson and is the only mall in the state of Penang to carry well-established international brands such as Coach, Rolex, Tissot, Omega, Pandora, Cache Cache, Dorothy Perkins, Fossil, CK Jeans, M.A.C, Kiehl’s and Birkenstock. Do check out its website for a full listing of the shops.

Besides international brands, you can also find familiar brands from Singapore such as Eu Yan Seng, Osim, Popular Bookstore, Bee Cheng Hiang, Sakae Sushi and even Cold Storage supermarket!

Ground Floor Atrium @ Gurney Plaza. We visited Penang a few weeks before Chinese New Year and we can feel the new year atmosphere in the mall with the Chinese New Year decorations and CNY songs played in the shops. Notice the Osim sales booth at the Ground Floor.

Throughout our 4 days 3 nights stay in Penang, we ate quite a number of our meals in Gurney Plaza, including our very first meal at Rou Ku Cha King. We will be writing food reviews on the eateries that we patronise during our stay in subsequent posts. But here's a sneak preview of some of them!

Hui Lau Shan (许留山). Famous Mango Dessert Shop, originating from Hong Kong. We had eaten their mango dessert when we were in Hong Kong few years ago and were pleasantly surprised to find out that they have an outlet in Penang!

Dragon-I Xiao Long Bao (龙的传人 拉面小笼包). We had eaten at Dragon-I at 1 Utama Shopping Mall when we visited some relatives in Petaling Jaya in Malaysia.

Travelling light this time for our shortgetaway on the Air Asia flight, we did not purchase checked in luggages for our flights. Thus, we did not shop much as we did not want to end up buying a luggage to carry our shopping back...anyway the prices were not exactly cheap compared to Singapore.

But we did tried a special experience that typical tourists would not do.. watching movie at the cinemas!
