Hotel Review: Mercure Bangkok Siam

Accessibility was at the top of our minds when we picked the Mercure Bangkok Siam.  We needed a hotel that would be close to a BTS station and also near to the famous Somboon Seafood Restaurant.  We were also lured by the idea of staying in a brand new hotel as well, as room hygiene was of utmost importance to us.

The Location

The Mercure Bangkok Siam occupies a strategic location just a few steps away from the National Stadium BTS Skytrain Station.

The Reception Area

Mercure Bangkok Siam occupies the floors from level 9 onwards while Ibis Bangkok Siam (being the cheaper option) occupies the lower floors from levels 1 – 8. The 2 hotels have separate entrances as seen in the below photo. In fact, some guests from Ibis Bangkok Siam gets upgraded to Mercure Bangkok Siam when the hotel is full.

The check-in counter for Mercure Bangkok Siam is actually at Level 9.  There’s this added hassle of having to take the lift to the 9th storey and changing to another lift to get to the rooms of Mercure.

The Room

We were rather impressed with the spacious and modern room allocated to us at the 21st storey.  As with most Mercure hotels, the décor leans towards modern contemporary with the use of bold colors.  The design here is actually quite consistent with that of the Mercure Sydney that we stayed in just a few months ago.

This is the part that I like most..the sliding door at the side actually allows you to look into the shower! Most importantly, the sliding dooe is controlled from the outside. Great for couples but may not be so good for friends! :-p

The room comes with 2 complimentary bottles of water (Note: the bottles are for the whole of your stay and not replenished daily) and coffee and tea.

The Bathroom

Bathroom hygiene is always of utmost importance to me, and this new hotel did not disappoint.  It is not spacious, but its modern design does appeal to us.

And of course, staying at the top offers us free panoramic views of Bangkok City, specifically the Siam area.  Look how near MBK Shopping Centre is.

The surrounding Areas

Corridors are nice and clean, but we were rather disturbed during the night when guests walked past.  It seems that the walls in this hotel are very thin, I could hear every conversation that passes by my door, and this was one of the last rooms in the corridor.

The Facilities

Mercure Bangkok Siam offers a small lap pool, right at level 27.   This is also the best place in the hotel to view the city scape of Bangkok.

It is very tempting to lounge here on the deck chairs on a sunny morning.

There is also a gym one storey higher, accessible through the stairs. Note that the lift only goes up to Level 27, you will need to climb a flight of stairs to reach the gym on the 28th floor.

Breakfast area for Mercure Bangkok Siam.  We did not try the buffet breakfast for there were so many other options in the Siam area!

Final Verdict

Mercure Bangkok Siam occupies a great location, if you want to be near MBK for shopping and to Somboon for a great seafood dinner.  Being steps away from the National Stadium BTS, it also means that you need not cab down from the airport.  The room and ancillary facilities are new and aesthetically pleasing with a modern décor.

Getting to Mercure Bangkok Siam

Here's a simple step-by-step guide to get from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Mercure Bangkok Siam.

1. Take the Airport Rail Link (Phaya Thai Express Line or SA City Line) to Phaya Thai station from the airport.

2. Transfer to the Phaya Thai Skytrain Station

3. Board the BTS Train on the Sukhumvit Line towards Bearing direction.

4. Alight at Siam Interchange Station and change to the Si-Lom Line (towards National Stadium).

5. Alight at National Stadium Station and The Mercure Bangkok Siam hotel is just next to the train station.  Exit 1 of the National Stadium stop is the nearest exit.
