When we return back to G Hotel Penang from our lunch @ Rou Gu Cha King, we were delighted to be informed by the reception that we were upgraded to a L Suite on the 11th floor! :)
We had originally booked the Superior room (55 square meters) at a Corporate Rate of MYR $340++ without breakfast. This works out to be around SGD $136 ++. A quick check on the G Hotel website shows that it would cost MYR $470++ (non-refundable) for normal public rate while the L Suite (67 square meteres) would have cost a whopping MYR $708++! So imagine our delight when we were told of the upgrade! :)
Spacious Hotel Lobby
Specially made welcome ice cream provided by the hotel for all guests while waiting for check in. This is something unique from G Hotel Penang. We find it a nice personal touch and it certainly leaves a good impression of the hotel.

The Luxurious L Suite
King Size Bed with a day bed by the side of the window. Though the orientation of the room meant that the view wasn't that fantastic (facing a condominium). But nevertheless, a good place to read a book with a cup of coffee...
Great Pillow Selection. For those of us who can only sleep under the right conditions. Take your pick and just give the Guest Service Centre a call.
Cozy King Bed. Wonder if they have a bed selection as well..just joking..
Ipod Dock on the bedside table. If you have brought along your ipod, you can plug in and unwind yourself after a long day of shopping or sightseeing.
Spacious toilet with separate shower area and full length bath tub. Nice place to unwind yourself after a day of eating and shopping!
Do remember to draw the window blinds beside the bath tub before you undress. You certainly don't want to be in the headlines for tomorrow's papers!
G Hotel Penang uses branded Bath products from Aigner (Shampoo, Hand & Shower Gel and Hand and Body Lotion). A pity we can't bring them home...but you can buy them from the hotel if you love them after your stay.
The L Suite comes with a adjoining living room with a writing table and LCD TV. You can watch TV when you come back from your day trips in the living room before retreating back to the bedroom.
Good complimentary beverage selection of tea, coffee and even milo placed nicely on a tray. It comes with 4 complimentary bottles of mineral water. Probably a suite benefit. Normal rooms probably comes with only 2 bottles.
Another kind gesture from the hotel is that all the items in the mini bar are all complimentary! The mini bar comes with 5 cans of water (mixture of carbonated and non carbonated) as well as 2 bars of Kit Kat, which are replenished daily. The Kit Kat in Malaysia tastes different from the ones we had in Singapore. It has more chocolate and less wafer and tastes so much better that we end up buying stacks of Kit Kat at Penang Airport before our flight back home!
Ideal Location
Besides being beside a big shopping mall (Gurney Plaza), the G Hotel Penang is ideally located near the Gurney Drive Hawker Centre and the Gurney Drive beach. We love its location as it is between George Town and the Batu Ferringhi beach, thus making both tourist sight easy accessible within half an hour's drive away.
Relax in Style
At G Hotel Penang, you can swim to your heart’s content in the infinity pool or unwind in style in the Jacuzzi. Conveniently located on the 3rd floor, the pool is open daily from 8am to 9pm, which makes a relaxing early morning swim before breakfast or an evening swim after a hard day equally as relaxing.
Relax at the deck chairs by the side of the pool after your swim.
Also located on the 3rd floor is G Hotel’s state of the art gym, specially designed for those wanting to workout in style and comfort. It is open daily from 6am to 10pm.
Enjoy breathtaking views of the sea while having a great gym workout!
Grand Ballroom
We had a sneek peep into the G Hotel Grand Ballroom. There was a wedding on the weekend that we were staying there. Quite nicely set up, we must say! ;)
G Hotel tries to project a playful and young image. This can be seen by its intentions to provide unique services to its guests. This room is called the G Love Room. We presume its a room for propective wedding couples to view the wedding packages that G Hotel can offer .
Uniquely G
Playing on the letter G, various services and facilties in the hotel are given names that start with G.
G Cycle. You can rent a bicycle for free and cycle around Penang.
G Carts. For the infants or shopping? Not too sure...hee hee..
G Spot? It is basically a trendy live style bar & lounge serving international liquors and cocktails accompanied by Live Jazz Music in a vibrant ambience.

Dine and Shop Galore
There is a Braun Buffel shop at G Hotel's lobby for the shopaholics.
For Dining Options, you can check out the Miraku Japanese Restaurant or the Sesame + Soy Pan Asian Chinese Cuisine Restaurant on Level 1.
We didn't dine in the 2 resturants but did tried G Hotel's buffet breakfast and its weekend high tea buffet which we will review in our subsequent posts in our Penang series.
Verdict: Overall, it was a wonderful stay at G Hotel Penang. Simple but small human touches from the hotels such as the Welcome Ice cream, complimentary mini bar (with can drinks and Kit Kat) and bookmarks placed on the bed every evening when we return to the hotel sure makes our stay truly enjoyable. The Aigner bath products and our complimentary upgrade to a L Suite certainly make our day!
Being close to Gurney Drive Hawker Centre and next to Gurney Plaza makes G Hotel Penang an ideal location to stay in while you visit Penang. With its free wifi, cool swimming pool and gym facilities and a free shuttle to Batu Ferringhi Night Market on Fridays and Saturdays, what more can one ask for! We will definitely stay at G Hotel Penang if we visit Penang again next time!
