Movie Treat @ Golden Screen Cinema (Gurney Plaza), Penang

After we have settled down in our L Suite in G Hotel and some shopping around Gurney Plaza, we went up to Golden Screen Cinema on the top floor of Gurney Plaza. If you had read our post on our lunch @ Rou Gu Cha King, you would have known that we managed to buy the tickets for the The Hobbit : An Unexpected Journey movie scheduled at 4.20 pm.

Watching a movie in Penang is much cheaper than Singapore! It costs us MYR 8 per person (SGD $3.20) to watch a movie on a weekday afternoon! The same show would have cost at least SGD $7 in Singapore and that's more than double the price!

As the movie was nearing its screening schedule, the movie was shown in a smaller non-digital format cinema and suffers slight performance issues in audio transmission. However, we did not mind considering the price that we paid!

In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we went for another show "The Impossible" on Saturday, and this time it was shown on a digital screen as it had just started its screening the day before.

 
We felt that the sound effects were comparable to Singapore's Golden Village!

This time, we decided to spend a little more and got ourselves a couple seat at the back of the cinema and the seats were spacious! It costs us MYR $30 (SGD $12) on a pair of tickets for the weekend rate and the premium for the couple seats, but we felt it was still worth it! The same price would not have gotten you two normal seats for a weekday show in Singapore!

Short queue at the counters selling drinks and tidbits. You might want to get something to eat as you watch the movie. I know what you are thinking....you are right..the prices again is much cheaper than Singapore! :)

Overall, we had a GREAT time at the movies at Golden Screen Cinema @ Gurney Plaza, Penang. So if you have time to spare while you were at Penang, you might want to catch a movie or two to chill yourself from the blistering weather at Penang! :)
